A Majority of Voters Support Biden Striking a Deal With Russia to Avoid War in Ukraine

Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, has deployed around 10,000 troops to the Russian border with Ukraine, threatening military force against the country. This week the United States put 8,500 troops on alert to potentially be sent to the region, and President Biden is weighing possible economic and military responses.

New polling from Data for Progress finds that 24 percent of likely voters have heard “a lot” about the recent developments in Ukraine and their impact on relations between the U.S and Russia. Thirty-one percent of voters have heard “some'' about these developments, while 23 percent have heard “only a little,” and 22 percent have heard “nothing at all.”

We also find that, by a +29-point margin, voters would support the Biden Administration striking a diplomatic deal with Russia to avoid war over Ukraine. This includes Democrats by a +54-point margin, Independents by a +18-point margin, and Republicans by a +6-point margin.
