data for politics #6: College educated whites... what the fuck?
By Sean McElwee (@SeanMcElwee)
In many contexts, higher education leads to more progressive stances (see here). However, in our polling on two issues, the Universal Basic Income and Baby Bonds (or Universal Basic Wealth) we find very much the opposite.
Here’s support for UBI by education among whites:

What the fuck college-educated white people?
This is a great example of why it’s so important to poll these sorts of issues. Injecting more issues into the discourse can shake up prevailing coalitions and also give us deeper insights into the American electorate. We’re going to be continuing to poll these issues because many issues like public internet could help progressives win in unexpected places and give us insights into how shaking up the current (limited) issue domain might re-shape political coalitions. These data suggest a universal basic income or wealth program might have support (and opposition) in unexpected places.
