Memo: Clean Slate for Worker Power Project

By Alexander Hertel-Fernandez Columbia University and Data for Progress

Executive Summary

To better understand how Americans are thinking about the recommendations proposed in the Worker Power and Voice in the Pandemic Response report issued by the Clean Slate for Worker Power project, this memo briefly summarizes results from a new survey of 1,301 likely voters conducted by Data for Progress.

The survey was fielded from 6/7/2020 to 6/8/2020 on a national likely voter sample recruited by Data for Progress from web panel respondents. The sample was weighted to be representative of likely voters by age, gender, education, race, and voting history. The survey was conducted in English. The margin of error on the full sample is ± 2.7 percent.

The survey probed respondents’ support for three items related to the report’s recommendations: (1) general support for worker voice in setting workplace health and safety standards, (2) requiring businesses to let employees elect a workplace safety and health advocate, and (3) requiring businesses to give workers access to online coworker discussion spaces.
