Voters Support Replacing 100 Percent Of Workers’ Wages During This Crisis

One of Democrats’ top priorities in the coronavirus relief package was supercharging unemployment insurance benefits. Our country is facing an unprecedented economic crisis, and the most significant expansion of unemployment insurance in history is vital to both slow the spread of the virus and help the more 22 million Americans who have lost their jobs keep food on the table.

Unemployment insurance was created in 1932, when no one could have imagined how the nature of work would change over the next century. Freelancers and gig workers and are excluded from traditional unemployment insurance benefits.

Voters Support Government Manufacturing of Drugs And Other Medical Supplies

In a global pandemic, it’s a basic necessity that every healthcare provider is equipped with adequate life-saving equipment and supplies. But across the U.S., providers are already facing shortages of ventilators, N95 masks, and prescription drugs for coronavirus patients. In some cases, lacking these supplies could prove fatal.

Voters Support Aid To Cities And States, Oppose Ending Social Distancing

The shutdowns necessary to enact social distancing and slow the spread of the coronavirus have had widespread economic impacts. They’ve forced businesses to shut down, laying off workers and disrupting supply lines, and brought many nonessential services to a halt. In addition to the personal impact on workers and business owners, this shutdown meant a loss of tax revenue, straining the budgets of already-struggling states and cities. Some municipalities have said that they would need to declare bankruptcy or make dramatic cuts to their services in order to survive this crisis.

The World Needs a Post-Coronavirus Green Marshall Plan

As the global economy heads toward the worst recession in nearly a century, the coronavirus’ rapid spread and associated economic despair have turned attention among developed countries inward. However, policymakers in these nations must understand that this pandemic disparately affects their developing-country counterparts and that they cannot prosper if they leave the Global South behind.

The Voters of OH-03 Support The Progressive Agenda

Since launching our campaign on July 1st to represent the Ohio’s Third U.S. Congressional District, I heard from establishment Democrats and Republicans alike that, ”his isn’t Queens, New York.” They bristled at the idea that a first-time candidate in the Midwest talking about how the federal government has a role to play to ensure everyone has a home, healthcare, a job that pays enough to live, and a clean environment safe from crime and police brutality could get traction. The implication being that advocating for bold progressive ideas to meet our country and community’s biggest challenges is hopelessly out of step with the people of Central Ohio. But, no one can deny that the incremental, market-based policies peddled by the political establishment over the past thirty years have not resulted in our communities being any more stable.

Coronavirus Response Tracking Poll, Week 1 and 2

In the past week, there has been an increase in people reporting they have lost their jobs. This week, 21 percent reported having lost their jobs, a 4 percentage point increase from last week. Fewer people are reporting a cut in hours, perhaps indicating that some workers who initially had their hours cut have now been laid off. Only 35 percent of respondents have received a stimulus check so far. Thirteen percent of respondents who work have received unemployment benefits since March 1st.

Voters Support Empowering Medicare To Cover Americans Health Care Costs During The Crisis

Millions of Americans are suddenly out of work. Now laid off, the vast majority will lose their employer-sponsored insurance––if they were lucky enough to have it in the first place. In short, this crisis has revealed the hollowness of that refrain that if one likes their insurance, they can keep it.

The precise origins of this economic crisis––a global pandemic––makes the sudden influx of uninsured families an increasingly urgent catastrophe in the making. Forced out of work because of an unprecedented health emergency, they are then deprived of their means by which they can obtain care for themselves and their loved ones.

Coronavirus and Climate Hit Communities of Color Hardest

Frontline communities across the country that have historically borne the brunt of poverty and pollution are also being disproportionately impacted by coronavirus. These communities experience the impacts of climate change first and worst, yet have the fewest resources to address them.

Crises often give rise to new public attitudes, and the response to coronavirus is no different. A line of research in political science suggests that in moments of anxiety the public shifts its views on a range of policies and what they expect from leaders.

Fox News Can't Save Trump From The Reality Of The Coronavirus

Sean Hannity dismissed the virus as incidental, claiming that the disease was merely an opportunity for the media and the socialist Democrats to “weaponize” their attacks on the President. Appearing on “Fox and Friends,” Jerry Falwell, Jr. told viewers that the North Koreans were to blame for the coronavirus.

Nationalize the Fossil Fuel Industry

As global demand for oil plummets, fossil fuel companies are finding themselves in an increasingly precarious position, one that likely requires government intervention. While the Trump Administration has considered providing federal assistance to oil companies, some climate advocates are trying to frame an alternative, pushing a plan for the government to take on public ownership of fossil fuel companies.
